CONVERGANCE: Building the Healthcare Workforce in the Inland Empire

Attendees and media turned out in force for the Inland Southern California Convergence Group’s press event and reception on September 23 at Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) in Rancho Cucamonga.  Presenters announced developments with Convergence, a unique collaboration among health industry experts, corporate leaders, providers and higher education to overcome barriers and improve the much needed pipeline of health professionals for the Inland Empire.

Convergence Chairpersons Devorah Lieberman, Ph.D., University of La Verne President, and Deborah Freund, Ph.D., immediate past president of Claremont Graduate University, were joined by IEHP CEO and SBCMS Member, Bradley Gilbert, M.D. and the Executive Director of Reach-Out and Inland Coalition Chair, Diana Fox (the backbone organization for Convergence) in remarks which announced goals and recognized over 30 key partners throughout the region who have committed to the project.

Formed in 2013, Convergence is a public-private partnership which stems from the estimated 16,600 new health care jobs that need to be filled by 2017. The initiative is dedicated to establishing programs that produce a larger and more diverse medical workforce to serve Inland Southern California's growing and diverse population. It is the largest initiative of its kind in the nation. The Convergence Group serves San Bernardino and Riverside counties, as well as the Eastern San Gabriel Valley.
